8/13/2023 0 Comments Jesus growing up clipartIn biblical Judaism, sacred oil was used to anoint certain exceptionally holy people and objects as part of their religious investiture. It derives from the Greek Χριστός ( Christos), a translation of the Hebrew mashiakh ( משיח) meaning " anointed", and is usually transliterated into English as " messiah". The word Christ was a title or office ("the Christ"), not a given name. Since the early period of Christianity, Christians have commonly referred to Jesus as "Jesus Christ". Yeshua/Yehoshua means " Yahweh is lordly", but popular etymology linked it to the verb meaning "save" and the noun "salvation", and the Gospel of Matthew tells of an angel that appeared to Joseph instructing him "to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins". The English name Jesus, from Greek Iesous, is a rendering of Joshua (Hebrew Yehoshua, later Yeshua), and was not uncommon in Judea at the time of the birth of Jesus. Jesus' neighbors in Nazareth refer to him as "the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon", "the carpenter's son", or " Joseph's son" In the Gospel of John, the disciple Philip refers to him as "Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth". Thus, in the New Testament, Jesus is commonly referred to as "Jesus of Nazareth". Ĭounter-clockwise from top-right: Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek, Latin, and English transcriptions of the name Jesus Naming conventionsĪ typical Jew in Jesus' time had only one name, sometimes followed by the phrase "son of ", or the individual's hometown. In contrast, Judaism rejects the belief that Jesus was the awaited messiah, arguing that he did not fulfill messianic prophecies, was not lawfully anointed and was neither divine nor resurrected. Most Muslims do not believe that he was killed or crucified but that God raised him into Heaven while he was still alive. Muslims believe Jesus was born of the virgin Mary but was neither God nor a son of God. In Islam, Jesus (often referred to by his Quranic name ʿĪsā) is considered the penultimate prophet of God and the messiah, who will return before the Day of Judgement. Jesus is also revered in the Baha'i faith, the Druze faith, Islam and Manichaeism. The world's most widely used calendar era-in which the current year is AD 2023 (or 2023 CE)-is based on the approximate birthdate of Jesus. His crucifixion is honored on Good Friday and his resurrection on Easter Sunday. The birth of Jesus is celebrated annually on 25 December as Christmas. The great majority of Christians worship Jesus as the incarnation of God the Son, the second of three persons of the Trinity. The Nicene Creed asserts that Jesus will judge the living and the dead, either before or after their bodily resurrection, an event tied to the Second Coming of Jesus in Christian eschatology. Commonly, Christians believe Jesus enables people to be reconciled to God. Ĭhristian theology includes the beliefs that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, was born of a virgin named Mary, performed miracles, founded the Christian Church, died by crucifixion as a sacrifice to achieve atonement for sin, rose from the dead, and ascended into Heaven, from where he will return. Accounts of his teachings and life were initially conserved by oral transmission, which was the source of the written Gospels. After his death, his followers believed he rose from the dead, and the community they formed eventually became the early Christian Church. He was arrested in Jerusalem and tried by the Jewish authorities, turned over to the Roman government, and crucified on the order of Pontius Pilate, the Roman prefect of Judea. Jesus debated with fellow Jews on how to best follow God, engaged in healings, taught in parables, and gathered followers. Jesus was a Galilean Jew who was circumcised, was baptized by John the Baptist, began his own ministry, and was often referred to as " rabbi". Academic research has yielded uncertainty on the historical reliability of the Gospels and how closely they reflect the historical Jesus. Accounts of Jesus' life are contained in the Gospels, especially the four canonical Gospels in the New Testament. Virtually all modern scholars of antiquity agree that Jesus existed historically. Most Christians believe Jesus to be the incarnation of God the Son and the awaited Messiah, the Christ that is prophesied in the Hebrew Bible. He is the central figure of Christianity, the world's largest religion. 6 to 4 BC – AD 30 or 33), also referred to as Jesus Christ, Jesus of Nazareth, and several other names and titles, was a first-century Jewish preacher and religious leader.

There has never been a more pivotal moment to be informed and assume your global citizenship. The managers sit in the office and do not use any team building for further improvement, they instead stand and point aimlessly for people to do a job they cant do themselves. Public exploration and production companies (E&Ps) have committed to capital discipline with modest growth after years of destroying value by growing production too aggressively. Why isn’t US oil production growing more at today’s high prices?ĭespite ample reserves, significant industry expertise in shale production, and financial incentive from higher oil prices, US oil production is only growing modestly for several reasons. Production is expected to achieve a new annual high in 2023 as shown in the chart below, but monthly production is forecast to only reach 12.6 MMBpd in December 2023. The latest monthly production numbers from August came in at 12.0 MMBpd – still well off the prior high but up 0.7 MMBpd from August 2021. Annual production was essentially flat in 2021, but volumes have increased in 2022 with higher prices. Production reached an all-time monthly high of 13.0 MMBpd in November 2019 before collapsing to just 9.7 MMBpd six months later in the wake of the pandemic and oil’s price crash. In the years leading up to the pandemic, US oil production saw a meteoric rise, with annual output growing by about 3.0 million barrels per day (MMBpd) from 2017 to 2019 as shown below. Perhaps it goes without saying, but the price spike this year in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine would have been much more severe if not for the significant oil production from the US. The transformation of the US into a major oil producer and exporter within a period of ten years is truly remarkable. US oil production: heydays of growth give way to moderation. Today’s note digs into US oil production trends, the factors limiting growth, and how this is arguably a good thing for energy infrastructure companies. Why is US oil production not growing more? This is a question that has confounded many people from politicians in Washington to anyone that has experienced sticker shock at fuel pumps this year. Prices are much higher today, which should be a greater incentive for ramping output, but US production is growing moderately. The US saw tremendous growth in oil production from 2017 to 2019 when oil prices were lackluster. For energy infrastructure corporations and MLPs, modest US production growth is arguably a goldilocks (or just right) scenario as it requires moderate capital spending and supports ongoing free cash flow generation.
8/12/2023 0 Comments Harlots review huluHowever, the show is very easy on the eyes and aesthetically appealing, and I loved it. So did I watch Harlots for the costumes, as this former writer professor of mine so priggishly suggested? Nope, I watched it for a look at 18th century London from the viewpoint of someone who wasn’t a upper class white male. The amount of money and time and detail that went into these designs… Nancy (Kate Fleetwood), Margaret’s best friend, is what we nowadays would call a dominatrix.Īs I once heard a self-righteous and pompous writer say, “Women only watch period pieces for the frocks.” While this writer’s claim is more-than-slightly ridiculous and sexist–the frocks are like the third or fourth reason I’ll watch a period piece–the costuming in this series is exquisite. The other two relationships are established, and naturally diversify the world which Harlots paints for the viewer.Īdditionally, the brothels shown do employ prostitutes which “cater” to certain special clientele (read: fetishes). It is important to note that none of these relationships feel forced, and that only one ‘develops’ in the course of the series. North (Danny Sapani), who was born a free man in London, and an American slaveowner. Harlots also does not shy away from discussing slavery in both England and America, and there’s a rather emotional confrontation between Mr. There are no less than three interracial couples shown through the first season (one of which involving Margaret Wells, who is arguably the main character), and one of those interracial couples is a same-sex couple. Harlots, however, doesn’t ignore England’s history of slavery and immigrants and it does not ignore the spectrum of sexuality either. We all know that the film and television industry has a tendency to misconstrue “the past” with “Caucasian only”, which is one of my biggest problems with period pieces. It does so, however, without making these storylines feel as if they’re only there to sell ratings, but rather the writers go to lengths to make the world of Harlots, extreme as it is at times, seem like a real brothel in 18th century London, which brings me to my next point. There are also some very dark themes and *trigger warning* the show does deal with abduction, rape, physical and sexual abuse, and child molestation. Another girl, Lucy, who is new to the ‘business’, struggles with the very act of physical intimacy and being appealing to the clientele. For example, one of the girls in Margaret Wells’ brothel becomes pregnant, and struggles to tell her bawd about the pregnancy for fear that she will be evicted from the brothel. The cast of characters are from from being the melodramatic stereotypes, however, and are presented with problems in very realistic ways. There’s torrid affairs (because duh it’s set in a brothel), there’s murder, and plenty of drama between the bawds. In the middle of the first episode, the Mutineer said, “Wow, this is just like a telenovela.” She wasn’t wrong. Here are three quick reasons why you should give the show a chance if you haven’t already. Quigley, isn’t fond of her competition moving closer to her, and, well, have you ever seen Drop Dead Gorgeous? It’s viciously catty like that, but with a lot more sex and blood. If this is the first time you’ve heard of Harlots, here’s a short synopsis: Margaret Wells (Samantha Morton) is the bawd of a brothel in Covent Garden, with her eye on a house in Greek Street so that she can get a higher class of clientele. I mean, I knew I was going to enjoy it because 18th century London is my thing, but I didn’t know how friggin much I was going to become obsessed with it. The Mutineer & I binge-watched the entirety of Hulu’s Harlots last weekend. 8/12/2023 0 Comments Unavowed wikiUnavowed also has twice the native pixel resolution than previous Wadjet Eye titles. Sadly, the Ford F150 truck still sells better than other vehicles in the U.S, while in reality few people buying a truck in the U.S use one as a truck. This was not even considered the black comedy of greed itself that it was. For example, the 50 year old white woman driving her $80,000 4 Wheel Drive Range Rover meant for scaling the deserts on suburban Florida streets to the grocery store to buy bottled water became the norm. Five years earlier citizens worldwide wanted greater business profits, participated in purchasing goods and services that they could not afford, hunted for bargains and pretended that they were rich themselves. The citizen also became outraged at huge CEO pay levels, bonuses and profits. The year 2008 was a trigger year when businesses, who are also employers of the citizen/consumer, became the “evil rich”. It was easier for the citizen to place guilt solely on the corrupt rich or greedy financial sector with no responsibility ascribed to the combined citizen/consumer. In reality, they voted for and supported each financial step until the bubble burst. When the citizen or consumer is “the prey” they believe fully that they have no responsibility for acts against them. Citizens believed they had nothing to do with the ensuing crisis, forgetting their role every step of the way, including contributions through the votes they cast in support for the acts that occurred. The citizen was caught off guard by the consequent economic crisis and naturally blamed others for everything that went wrong. The Citizen subsequently learnt about the vast corruption within the financial sector, the improprieties involved with the housing market, government supported mortgages and the impending burst of the massive bubble. was in the “Wild West” state of non-regulation, stock trading, cash derivative bets and options trading that were at all time highs. At the same time the stock market in the U.S. helping to push loans through for citizens with inadequate abilities to finance mortgages. Bank improprieties for example are blamed for the loose mortgage financing that was further fueled by government institutions worldwide such as Freddie Mac, etc. They have had to rely on false and/or incomplete information about why it happened. Most citizens did not know what actually caused the economic crash. Since the 2008 massive worldwide economic crash, moods have changed. This is the schizophrenia of how the U.S. As the citizen and consumer are the same person we create conflict in our own thinking and in what we communicate about ourselves. At the same time consumers demand the lowest prices and expect the corporation or franchisee of a restaurant to absorb the higher labor cost. Many of the citizens are outraged that firms like Wal-Mart or fast food restaurants appear to pay less than a livable wage. The Consumer, the other side of the citizen, wants to buy everything at the lowest price, eat as much as they can, and shop for bargains. Their actions suggest the desire for a system that generates less profit for business and improved "fair trade” that is linked to the "cost of living". For example, the citizen wants the best health care, very high wages and minimal control of our economic system by the elite rich and corporations. The use of the words “citizen” and “consumer” to many would appear to be synonymous when in actual fact, there are often conflicts between their desires and aspirations that could lead one to believe that these are two different groups of individuals.
